Choosing a marketing partner
Plumbing marketing agency: how to choose the right one for your firm
By Gal Gazit Published Updated 3 min read

Hiring a plumbing marketing agency is a decision worth making carefully, because the wrong fit costs money and months. This guide sets out what a good agency does, the questions worth asking before you sign anything and the warning signs I would watch for.
What a plumbing marketing agency should do
At its best an agency gets your firm found by homeowners who are searching, then helps turn that attention into enquiries and booked jobs. Ask which jobs the agency aims at, because marketing for emergency callouts and marketing for boiler installations are different work.
Seven questions to ask before you hire
- Can you show me every lead and booking your work produces?
- Who owns my Google Business Profile and my ad account, and will I keep them if we part ways?
- Which job types do you aim at, and why?
- Can you show me a real client result, with the context behind it?
- How do you handle leads that turn out to be invalid or outside my area?
- Who will I speak to from week to week?
- What does leaving look like, and how much notice do you need?
Warning signs worth taking seriously
Guaranteed rankings. Google states that there is no way to pay for a better local ranking, so any promise of a guaranteed top spot deserves suspicion.
Vague reporting. If you can’t see your leads and bookings, you can’t judge the work.
Long contracts with no way out. A good agency expects to earn your next month.
One size fits all packages. Emergency plumbing and boiler installation customers behave differently, and the marketing should reflect that.
Where a specialist agency fits
At Plumbing & Heating Growth I work on one job type, boiler installation, using Local Services Ads and Google Business Profile optimisation. That focus suits plumbing firms that fit boilers or want to. A firm with no interest in fitting boilers will be better served by a different agency, and I’d rather say so early. You can read more about how I work in a plumbing and heating marketing agency built around boiler installations.
What it looks like in practice
Flow Plus Plumbing is a plumbing firm in North London. Their first booked job came within 24 hours of launch, and in the first two weeks they had 17 tracked enquiries and 4 booked jobs. Those are Flow Plus Plumbing’s results from a new website plus Google Ads. Today I work through Local Services Ads and Google Business Profile optimisation, and because every area is different, I start by looking at how homeowners search for boiler installers in your patch.
How much does a plumbing marketing agency cost?
Fees vary widely between agencies and between services, and advertising spend is usually separate from the agency fee. Ask for the fee and the ad budget as two separate figures so you can compare them clearly.
Is a plumbing marketing agency worth it?
It can be, when the agency’s work brings in jobs you can trace back to its activity. Ask to see your leads and bookings so you can judge the return for yourself.
Should a plumbing firm use an agency or do its own marketing?
Plenty of firms start by fixing their Google Business Profile and reviews themselves. An agency helps most with the ongoing, technical parts such as running ads and watching which enquiries become jobs.
What is the difference between a plumbing marketing agency and a plumbing and heating marketing agency?
The second adds heating work, which for many firms means boiler installation. Heating installs attract a different customer from emergency plumbing, so the best agencies say clearly which work they focus on. If that’s you, my guide to marketing for boiler installers is a good next read.
Do plumbing marketing agencies work with small firms?
Many do. Ask whether the agency’s service suits a firm of your size and whether you control the budget.
