Google Business Profile Optimisation for Boiler Installers

Your Google Business Profile is the shop window a homeowner walks past while researching a new boiler. Most heating firms treat theirs like an address card. I rebuild it around installation work so the right homeowners find it and trust it.

How Google decides who to show

Google says local results come mainly from three factors: relevance, distance and prominence. Relevance is how well your profile matches what someone searched for. Distance is how far you are from the searcher. Prominence is how well known your business is, and Google confirms that review count and score influence it. Nobody can move your office closer to a homeowner, so I put the effort into relevance and prominence. Google also states that there is no way to pay for a better local ranking, so the work comes down to getting the basics right and keeping them right.

What I change

  • Services listed properly around boiler installation
  • Photographs of real completed installs
  • Reviews that name the job
  • Posts about the installation work you want more of

Reviews that name the job

A review that says “great service” does little for the next homeowner. One that says the firm fitted a new combi in a day and explained the grant paperwork answers the question they are actually asking. Asking costs one sentence at handover, and many job management systems can send the request automatically.

Found by AI tools too

Homeowners increasingly put boiler questions to AI tools, which build their recommendations from the same ingredients: your Google Business Profile, your reviews and the content on your website. A profile that explains your installation work clearly helps with both people and AI tools.

How long before my profile performs better?

It depends on your area and how many firms compete there, which is why I look at your patch before suggesting anything.

Do I need lots of reviews?

Google says more reviews and positive ratings can help your local ranking. Reviews that describe the job matter as much as the count, because they answer the questions homeowners are asking.

Can I pay Google to rank higher on the map?

Google states that there is no way to request or pay for a better local ranking in the map results. Paid placement comes through Local Services Ads, which is a separate format. I explain how they work in my guide to Local Services Ads for heating engineers.

What should a boiler installer put on their Google Business Profile?

List your services around boiler installation, add accurate opening hours and service areas, upload photographs of real completed installs, collect reviews that name the job and post about the work you want more of.

How do I get more Google reviews as a boiler installer?

Ask at handover, while the customer is happy, and invite them to say what you installed. Sending the request by message with a direct link makes it easy for them to say yes.

Do photographs really matter?

Photographs of real installs let a homeowner see the standard of your work before they ring, which is exactly what a careful buyer is looking for.

Will AI tools recommend my firm?

No one can promise that. AI tools draw on the same ingredients as Google, namely your profile, your reviews and your website, so making those clear and consistent gives you the best chance. I wrote more about the homeowner who researches before they ring in Found on Google, Lost on the Quote.
